Ribbon Renaissance, Artistry in Silk
by Helen Eriksson

Helen Eriksson's silk ribbon embroidery uses only the richest, most delicate, most luxurious silk ribbons, linens and velvets to create work so real that many people mistake her flowers for live blooms. Here she has recreated flowers and plants in her silk ribbon pictures, carefully matching silks and threads to create a surprisingly realistic look. She has developed stitches and techniques to give a remarkable authentic three-dimensional quality to her work. Projects in the book include framed artworks and decorator items such as cushions, as well as practical pieces. Careful step-by-step instructions and detailed photographs and drawings are included for each project with an extensive stitch glossary in the back of the book.

Helen will be coming to teach at Quilts'n'Stitches in 2008 check the website for details.

Baltimore Beauties and Beyond - Volume One
by Elly Sienkiewicz
Publisher CT Publishing

The first volume contains four parts. The first part looks at getting started to make a Baltimore Album quilt. The second part has twelve lessons gradually working through the entire construction process. When I first read this book my reaction was 'WOW so that's how it's done'. I learned so much from this book such as how to make a ruched rose, three-dimensional flower buds, right through to mending appliqué and troubleshooting points and corners. In the third part Elly looks in detail at the needleartists whose work is featured in the book. Each lady is named and a little about her is written. The fourth part of the book begins the pattern section. The patterns are very well detailed and include any embroidery stitching required to complete the block.
